Local media react to 'best outfield player' who Rangers have just sent scouts to watch
Rangers have already been pressing ahead with their future transfer plans this week.
Derek McInnes was heavily backed in the transfer market this summer, with 14 new signings through the door.
After a slow start to the season, that recruitment drive is now baring fruit as the Gers bask in an eight-game unbeaten run.
Olwethu Makhanya and James Penrice have been revelations, Minsu Kim continues to improve whilst Dan Neil looks a quality addition too.
But at a club like Rangers, there's never any time to stand still in the pursuit of improvement.
So, with January soon to appear on the horizon, Ibrox chiefs already seem to be getting their transfer ducks in a row.
Which EFL winger were Rangers scouting on Tuesday night?
Rangers made a pronounced effort to dip into the English market this summer.
Kosta Nedeljkovic, Neil, Ivor Pandur and Ross McCrorie all made the move to Govan from south of the border.
This quartet have had mixed success in Glasgow so far, but it's evidently a market that Gers are looking to continue shopping in.
As revealed on Tuesday night by Pete O'Rourke via X, Rangers issued scouts on a mission to go and watch Bayley McCann.
The 20-year-old winger plays for League One side Doncaster Rovers, who were taking on Stockport County in South Yorkshire.
He spent time with Peterborough United and Barnsley at academy level, and has been out on loan in English non-league football.
So, how did the Northern Ireland youth international fare, and what did local media say about his display as Rangers watched on?
Why Rangers will have been taken by McCann's performance
McCann played 90 minutes for Doncaster on Tuesday night, as Rovers fell to a 2-0 defeat to Stockport.
The youngster was deployed on the left wing in a wing-back role, and put in an eye-catching performance despite the defeat.
Per FotMob, he created one chance, completed both of his two dribble attempts successfully, won six ground duels, made four recoveries and three tackles.
The Doncaster Free Press said of his display: "Making his first league start, played with tenacity and brought a little bit of fire to the team.
"Made three tackles but didn't create loads going forward. Still the more lively of the two wingers. Probably the best outfield player on the night."
Wing-backs are naturally versatile players, and McCann is clearly adept at getting up down the left flank.
Rangers will surely turn Penrice's loan deal into a permanent one at some point, but providing an understudy to the 27-year-old would be wise.
The Gers could view McCann as Penrice's eventual successor, and a player they can nurture and perhaps even loan out for a season or two.
