Lewis Ferguson's move to Rangers: State of play, what we know, when deal could be done
Rangers are understood to want to bring Lewis Ferguson back to the club, but striking a deal will be easier said than done.
The nephew of club legend Barry Ferguson, and the son of fellow ex-Gers ace Barry Ferguson, was released by the Gers in 2013.
The Ibrox side did not bring him back when he was leaving Aberdeen, and he instead joined Bologna in Italy.
Rangers have constantly been linked with Ferguson due to his family connections to the Govan side.
The 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh could sanction an audacious swoop to bring him back to G51 after his exploits at the World Cup with Scotland where he was a standout player.
Ibrox News takes a look at the state of play, where the transfer lies at the moment.
What we know about Lewis Ferguson's potential move to Rangers
Ferguson is a name that has been on Gers fans' lips for years, with regret that they let him move to the Serie A side.
Speculation has been rife that Derek McInnes' side are preparing a marquee deal to bring him back into the Auchenhowie ranks.
Bologna have put a £17.2million price tag on their captain, according to a report from Italian outfit Il Resto Del Carlino.
If that figure is accurate, then it would be a record fee for the Light Blues, eclipsing the £12m that they paid for Tore Andre Flo in 2000.
They face competition from Roma and Atalanta, and the Daily Record claim that Ibrox sources have admitted that it will be a difficult deal despite work going on behind the scenes.
When could a deal for Ferguson to move to Rangers be completed - if at all?
A deal is unlikely to be completed anytime soon.
That is unless Ferguson cuts his holiday short, as his involvement in the World Cup means he is entitled to 21 days off, and he will be back next week.
Lawrence Shankland did cut his family holiday short to sort out the formalities of his Ibrox move, though, so nothing can be ruled out at this point on a potential timescale.
However, until a deal is completed, nothing will start moving in terms of personal terms, so the Scotland international can enjoy his break away from the game for now.
Things can change quickly in football, though, and the Gers may decide to make their move shortly to try and get ahead of the interest in his services.
