Lewis Ferguson to Rangers 'inevitable' as conditions named for transfer

Lewis Ferguson moving to Rangers one day is now "inevitable", according to Mark Guidi.

The Gers were linked with an ambitious summer move to bring the Scotland international to Ibrox during the last transfer window.

However, it was regularly reported that it would cost somewhere between £15-20million to convince Bologna to sell.

As such, a reunion with Derek McInnes - Ferguson's former manager at Aberdeen - did not come to fruition.

However, reports of a transfer further down the line, perhaps as soon as January, refuse to go away.

And chief football writer of the Sunday Mail Guidi has now shared his expectation based off what Ferguson recently said about a move to Ibrox.

Ferguson is back in Glasgow at the moment as he was involved in Scotland's 3-0 defeat to Switzerland at Hampden Park last night.

It is little secret that Ferguson is a Rangers supporter, with his father Derek and uncle Barry having represented the Gers.

Indeed, he was on the books in Govan as a youngster but was released, and links of a return continue to gather pace.

Speaking to the media this week, Ferguson spoke about his "dream" of player for Rangers and refused to rule out a future move.

Guidi is "absolutely certain" the transfer will happen, but is unsure whether it would be Ferguson's next move.

He thinks for that to happen then Rangers would have to get their model of selling players to reinvest moving faster.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said: "Moving forward, listening to Lews Ferguson, things at Bologna are not as smooth, I don't mean just for him but for the club as well.

"He's maybe had his best years in terms of what the club can do for him and what he can do for the club.

"I think it sounds like a transfer is inevitable, whether it happens in January or happens next summer. It might not be his next move, it might be the one after the next one.

"I'm absolutely certain at some stage Lewis Ferguson will sign for Rangers, I don't think there's any doubt about that.

"He wants it happen, it's a case of when it happens, and it might be directly from Bologna but Rangers would need to get that business model going."

Rangers went through an extensive summer rebuild, bring in 14 players to overhaul the squad after McInnes' arrival.

Signing Ferguson would have been some coup for the Gers, but they could just not find a way to make the move happen.

Rangers ultimately strengthened the engine room with the arrivals of Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, and Vanja Dragojevic, while Nicolas Raskin also stayed despite rumours he would be sold.

But having Ferguson in that squad could be a real game-changer.

He is a proven performer in one of the strongest leagues in the world, and is a regular on the international scene for Scotland.

Whether it happens in January, the summer, or further down the line, Rangers should be doing what they can to bring Ferguson to Ibrox.
