Jack Butland's future at Rangers will be resolved this summer after the appointment of Derek McInnes.

The Gers have already done work on their goalkeeping department this summer, handing Liam Kelly a contract extension.

Kelly will remain as the back-up to Butland, as things stand, who has been linked with an Ibrox exit.

However, McInnes' Ibrox arrival gives most players a second chance to impress, and the goalkeeper is one of them.

Andrew Cavenagh has stated it will be a "summer of change" in Glasgow, and though the Bears are yet to sell anybody, multiple players could be headed for the door soon, including Butland.

Rangers are getting to work already with incomings though, as it seems to be a summer of reunion for McInnes.

Jack Butland reacts to Ross McCrorie announcement

Rangers Review previously reported that Butland won't be handed a new deal at Ibrox anytime soon, which has led to speculation around his exit.

The Bears have been linked to possible replacements for the former Premier League shot-stopper, including Sunderland's Anthony Patterson and Sheffield Wednesday's Pierce Charles.

McInnes may very well sanction a mission to upgrade between the sticks, but for now, the Light Blues have other priorities.

Rangers have been keen to land James Tavernier's replacement, and that has now been done, with the transfer of Bristol City wing-back Ross McCrorie confirmed at Ibrox on Thursday.

Butland reacted by liking Rangers' official announcement of McCrorie on Instagram, as fellow teammates Bojan Miovski and Lyall Cameron also double-tapped.

It's said that Rangers will pay the Robins around £1.5million for the Scotsman, who has put pen to paper over a three-year deal at Ibrox, which includes the option of a further year.

Ross McCrorie: How latest Ibrox arrival compares to James Tavernier

What did McCrorie say about re-joining Rangers?

McInnes marked his second Ibrox homecoming recently, 31 years after joining the club as a player, and was instantly reunited with his former Hearts skipper, Lawrence Shankland.

The 54-year-old spent time at Aberdeen with McCrorie, and so he gains another familiar face at Ibrox after the latter's arrival.

McCrorie was delighted to rejoin Rangers after leaving in 2020, speaking on his return in an interview.

The former Aberdeen star said: "As a kid, when you grow up at Rangers the characteristics to be able to play at this club are instilled in you from an early age.

“It is a dream come true to come back up the road to the team I support.”

McCrorie will wear the number two shirt, and will soon link up with his new Rangers teammates for pre-season.
