Jack Butland reacts as Rangers announce Bailey Rice contract news
Jack Butland has reacted to the news of Bailey Rice's new deal at Rangers, despite links connecting him with an exit from Ibrox.
Much of the focus this summer has been, and will be, on incoming transfers, though some attention will be reserved for the future of those currently residing at Ibrox.
James Tavernier's exit has already been announced, with a move to England potentially on the cards for the former captain.
However, the future of Rice had also been up in the air, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.
The midfielder had interest from several clubs in England, including Sunderland in the Premier League.
But the Gers have managed to tie him down to a new deal, as confirmed via social media on Monday afternoon.
Details of Bailey Rice's new Rangers contract
The extension was announced late afternoon on Monday via Instagram, with Bojan Miovski and Butland among those having liked the post.
Rangers have confirmed in a later post that the midfielder has agreed a one-year contract extension, with the Light Blues holding the option for another year.
The 19-year-old made just one senior appearance for Rangers last term, and 12 in the season prior.
However, the news of a contract extension points towards one of two things for the teenager.
What could come next for Rice at Rangers?
Just by noting the interest that Rice has had in him over the last few months, it's clear that he has bags of potential that we have yet to see.
And for Rangers to have extended his contract, it demonstrates that they are fully aware of it.
He is likely to be handed a chance under Derek McInnes to impress in pre-season, before a decision is made on his immediate future.
The extension of his deal afford the Gers the chance to send him out on loan before assessing his development, before then deciding whether the club option of an extra year is worth activating.
With that said, it may also be with a view to him having a role to play for the Light Blues in the upcoming campaign depending on other midfield exits.
