How Rangers could sign Oskar Fallenius in January for absolutely nothing
Oskar Fallenius refuses to go away as transfer speculation continues at Rangers.
Despite signing 14 new players over the summer, there is still the possibility of more in January.
Derek McInnes is the third manager is quick succession to be backed heavily by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers.
Russell Martin tried and failed, while Danny Rohl almost achieved greatness only to throw it away at the final hurdle.
Fallenius, who currently plays for Djurgarden, was first linked with Ibrox while Rohl was in charge.
That continued into this summer under McInnes, and still hasn't completely disappeared.
But, the door may be wider than ever in January.
Why could Rangers sign Oskar Fallenius for free?
The Swedish football leagues run differently to others in Europe.
Usually starting in spring, it runs until the middle of November.
That means contracts are different too, with Fallenius' current deal said to be expiring in December of this year.
Teamtalk has reported that the winger is still a target for Rangers, and could actually sign for free, or at least a cut price.
However, they do insist that transfer business will only be done if a major hole appears in the squad through injuries or a lack of form.
But, this is one that refuses to go away.
How do Rangers injuries look?
Right now, the winger situation looks just fine.
Summer signing, Daisuke Yokota is out injured, but there are four other options available to McInnes.
Badredine Bouanani, Minsu Kim, Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis are all fighting for two spots as it is.
Relatively speaking, all four have done well enough not to cause panic or worry that another winger is needed.
Sometimes, market opportunities arise that are too good to turn down, though, and Fallenius possibly being available on a free is one of those.
Data isn't everything in football, but Fallenius hasn't completed 90 minutes once for Djurgarden in 2026, with cameos off the bench more frequent.
If he can't do it every week in Sweden, Scotland may not be for him, regardless of just how much of a bargain this looks.
Somethings are just too good to be true.
