How Rangers could hold advantage over Celtic as offer sent for Achraf Missou
Rangers could be about to land Hamza Igamane 2.0 in Achraf Missou, but they also face competition from Celtic.
Igamane was a popular figure at Ibrox, even if he did frustrate at times, prior to joining Lille last summer.
The 23-year-old landed Rangers north of £10million, which was a massive profit on the £1.7m spent to sign the forward a year prior.
Rangers' transfer department deserve praise for finding a hidden gem in Igamane, who was playing for Moroccan side AS Far at the time.
And it may well be that those high up at Ibrox have found themselves another potential bargain.
That is amid an update that is emerging from out of Africa.
Rangers and Celtic in for Achraf Missou
Missou, it is fair to say, is not a player fans of Rangers would have heard of before now.
However, that may soon change as KoraMaroc - followed by more than 24,000 people on X, including credible journalists - report Rangers have submitted an offer.
The account specialises in Moroccan football and has a number of FIFA-accredited journalists on its books.
A post on Wednesday morning read: "The new Igamane? Several European clubs have already sent offers to AS FAR for their young talent.
Rangers and Celtic were named as two of the clubs to have lodged offers, along with Bochum, Gent, Go Ahead Eagles and Fortuna Sittard.
It was accompanied by a video showing Missou finding the net in Botola Pro, with his performances in that league catching the eye of European teams.
But exactly what can Rangers expect in Missou should they win the race for his signature?
What type of player is Rangers target Missou?
Moroccan Foot Talents describe Missou as "powerful, dominant in duels, effective in playing with his back to goal and an excellent pivot point to push the team forward."
Given he is aged just 19, the youngster clearly has a lot of developing to do.
As we saw with Igamane, though, there are bargains to be found in that market.
Ibrox News has reported extensively on Rangers' interest in Vaclav Cerny and Jens Hjerto-Dahl, both of whom would cost north of £7m.
Deals for either would clearly get fans more excited, but it is a move for Missou that could pay more dividends down the line.
Missou will be well aware of the path taken by compatriot Igamane and where it got him, so Rangers may well have an advantage over the other interested clubs.
