How Rangers can baffle even more as Gvidas Gineitis transfer wanted at Ibrox

Rangers have their sights set on signing Torino's Gvidas Gineitis.

The Bears have already added several new midfielders to their ranks this summer, but it doesn't seem like they are finished.

Derek McInnes has welcomed the likes of Cammy Devlin, Vanja Dragojevic and Dan Neil to Ibrox, with midfield being a key talking point around the club's recruitment.

Though Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande could yet depart the Govan side, many would suggest that another man in the middle park is the last thing the Gers need.

Supporters are keen to see wingers and new full-backs join before the window closes, as PSV's Couhaib Driouech is edging closer to a move to Glasgow.

Now, Rangers' interest in Gineitis has emerged in a transfer update that could baffle fans even more.

Rangers in another Old Firm tussle for Gvidas Gineitis

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Rangers have recently set their sights on signing Gineitis.

Celtic are also said to be keen, though neither of the Old Firm sides have yet to arrive at an offer that is capable of making Torino fold.

Speaking recently, the player's agent, Dmitry Vinokurov, has spoken about Celtic's interest specifically.

Vinokurov said: "Yes, Celtic have contacted me for Gvidas, but there is no offer yet."

Danny Rohl's RB Salzburg have also entered the race for the 22-year-old, who has impressed in Italy recently.

The Lithuania international played 29 times for Torino in the Serie A last season, and is a similar type of profile to what Rangers already have.

He has registered just six assists in his professional career, and a move for the midfielder could upset Rangers fans even more.

The only explanation behind Gineitis chase

The likes of Neil, Devlin and Dragojevic have all arrived at Ibrox this summer, but that's without mentioning what Rangers already had coming into the window.

Tochi Chukwuani is most likely going to stay with the Bears, but the club still have Lyall Cameron, Raskin, Diomande, Connor Barron and Jose Cifuentes on the books.

So that's nine players who all have the ability to play in central midfield for McInnes.

The only explanation for Rangers making a move to sign Gineitis is if Raskin, Diomande and Barron are all sold

Even then, they are more creative players than the Lithuanian, who would offer little to Rangers going forward in matches.
