How much Rangers may have to pay for Olwethu Makhanya as talks begin
Rangers know what to expect in their efforts to sign Olwethu Makhanya.
The Philadelphia Union man has emerged after a target after three years in MLS.
His performances in the US were enough to earn himself a spot in the South Africa squad for the World Cup.
He may now have a point to prove after failing to pick up a single minute as his nation went out in the round of 32.
The centre-back remains a target at Ibrox after being linked earlier in the summer.
Rangers are in the race to sign Makhanya and could be in the perfect position to land his signature.
Why do Rangers want Olwethu Makhanya?
It has already been a busy summer for Derek McInnes and Co.
That only looks set to continue in the coming days and weeks as the Light Blues look to add defensive reinforcements.
That could see the Philadelphia Union man come in, as Ibrox News recently covered Rangers' initial interest in Makhanya.
Union's boss Bradley Carnell described him as "standout" last year as he continues to catch the eye.
That has now seen Rangers make contact with Makhanya's representatives.
There has been interest from various sides across Belgium, France and England at this stage of the summer.
The MLS outfit have already turned down an offer that gives the Govan club a leg-up in negotiations.
Philadelphia Union have already rejected Makhanya bid
The Gers have their eyes on the centre-back, but may have to prove just how much they want him.
Putting their money where their mouth is could prove to be the only way to get this deal over the line.
iDiski Times reported on Wednesday that Philadelphia Union have already turned down a £3million bid for Makhanya.
An unnamed Belgian club have recently tabled the failed offer, much to the frustration of the defender.
Rangers now know that they will have to pay above that figure to make a deal happen.
If they could reach closer to £4m, it may prove to be too much for the Union to turn down this summer.
