Couhaib Driouech transfer farce rumbles on as Sky Sports share update from Ibrox

Rangers fans are left wanting answers following news of Couhaib Driouech's seemingly certain transfer falling through.

The Gers had been expected to announce Driouech as their 10th summer signing on Friday.

The 24-year-old was even pictured in the stands at Ibrox on Thursday evening for the Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia.

However, reports emerged that Rangers pulled out of a deal for Driouech due to a concern flagged in his medical.

Subsequent reports have suggested, though, that the deal collapsed due to PSV and Rangers failing to reach an agreement.

The fact Driouech was in attendance at Ibrox surely suggests a deal was as good as done.

As far as supporters were aware, a medical had been undertaken and an agreement was in place with both PSV and the winger.

The cynics among the fanbase will point to Rangers' exit from the Europa League, for which Driouech was present, as the reason this has collapsed.

Did the player see enough from Derek McInnes' side to realise he wanted no part of it?

The line from Adam Binnie via Sky Sports is that was not the case.

Speaking live from Ibrox on Friday morning, Binnie said: "We understand that deal is now off.

"We were told Rangers have pulled out of the deal because of issues around his medical.

"We also understand it is nothing to do with the fact Rangers lost that tie last night. Nothing to do with that result."

So that is the line Rangers are sticking with, but surely the truth will emerge before long.

What next for Rangers after Driouech transfer farce?

Driouech was expected to be summer signing number 10, swiftly followed by James Penrice as number 11.

While a deal for Penrice appears to be in place, nothing can be taken for granted anymore.

It means there is now even more pressure on Andrew Cavenagh and his team to find another attacker.

A bid has been submitted for Portland Timbers' Kevin Kelsy, who looks an exciting talent.

Penrice and Kelsy alone would not be enough for Rangers, though, following the failure to get a deal done for Driouech.

Whether it is someone already linked or a new target, Rangers need to get another attacker in before the window shuts early next month.
