Rangers have entered the race to sign FC Troyes defender, Sankhoun Diawara.

Derek McInnes and the Bears have been busy this summer already, confirming five new signings at Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh promised significant backing, and has already delivered, but with more to come.

Diawara is a new name, and could follow Ross McCrorie and Ben Godfrey through the door as defensive reinforcements.

Rangers have made their move, but there is competition already.

With players returning to Auchenhowie for pre-season testing, new faces are seemingly being added with each passing day.

What's the latest with Sankhoun Diawara transfer?

Rangers are wasting no time.

McInnes has admitted that more new signings are wanted, but some may take longer with added interest from elsewhere.

Diawara fits into that category.

Foot Mercato and Santi Aouna have reported that Rangers have presented an ambitious project to sign the central defender.

It is said that FC Basel had made significant progress to get a deal over the line, but Rangers have now jumped in.

However, it is yet to be seen if either can drag him away from Troyes for now.

Sankhoun Diawara's contract opens door to Rangers

Alongside the interest, Diawara's contract only has one more year on it with FC Troyes.

Despite lifting the Ligue 2 title last season and returning to the top table in France, the defender doesn't want fresh terms.

Troyes want to keep the 20-year-old, but he appears ready to take the next step in his career.

What could be the project that Rangers have presented, though?

With John Souttar and Emmanuel Fernandez being joined by Godfrey, another new face would be welcomed.

Fernandez is the only one of those three guaranteed to start though, so learning from the others at Auchenhowie could see him as one for the future, if not immediately starting.

There is no slowing down at Auchenhowie right now, and it's clear that Cavenagh and the 49ers will stop at nothing until success returns to Ibrox.

It remains to be seen if Diawara will be a part of that, but his interesting contract situation could help Rangers seal a bargain.
