Bryan Reynolds could fit new Rangers transfer blueprint as Americans hands on

Published on

Bryan Reynolds has emerged as a concrete transfer target for Rangers in what could be a new approach by the owners.

Reports emerged from Belgium on Tuesday suggesting Westerlo left-back Reynolds is wanted by the Gers, with an approach having already been made.

Westerlo are open to a sale this summer as the United States international is out of contract in a year's time.

Reynolds is not a name many - if any - Rangers supporters will be familiar with.

It would not be the first time Rangers have raided the Belgian club for a player of late, having signed Tuur Rommens earlier this year.

However, it may be a sign of a possibly different transfer approach to come from Andrew Cavenagh and Co.

Rangers could well shop for more Americans

Reynolds has earned seven caps for the USA senior side, but he will not be at the World Cup on home soil this week.

The 24-year-old has not played for his country for three years now so was likely not in the frame for Mauricio Pochettino.

With American businessman Cavenagh calling the shots, however, and fellow Americans alongside him, this could be a sign of things to come.

There is certainly a lot of untapped potential out there, with the Belgian market proving a strong breeding ground for some big talents.

Look no further than Nico Raskin for that, having been signed from Standard Liege in 2023.

Reynolds is very much an unknown quantity, but his stats last season paint a picture of what to expect if he does join.

He scored two goals and assisted three more from right-back which, while not in the Tavernier realm, is still very high from open play.

Reynolds also helped his side to 13 clean sheets from 39 games, which is always the bread and butter for defenders.

Celtic have had success with American signings

Celtic, as Gers fans will not need reminding, recently won the title with Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers in their ranks.

Rangers have themselves had Americans on their books in the past to mixed success.

For Rangers to target an unknown right-back from Belgium seems a little strange, but the connections are very much there.

All Rangers fans will really care about is that signings are made early in the window so that Danny Rohl can right the wrongs of last season.
