Rangers hone in on James Tavernier replacement as green light given for Bryan Reynolds deal

Published on

Rangers appear to have found their true successor to James Tavernier as contact has been made with Westerlo over Bryan Reynolds.

Reynolds has been capped seven times by the United States, but not since 2023.

The 24-year-old has previously played for Roma, although he made just a few Serie A appearances.

He has spent the past four years in Belgium, the past three of those with Westerlo, with whom he has made over 100 league appearances.

Reynolds is now very much on Rangers' radar ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

That is amid a new update that has emerged out of Belgium on Tuesday afternoon.

Westerlo open to selling Rangers target Bryan Reynolds

Reynolds is not exactly a known name, even if he was on Roma's books, but he has clearly caught the eye in Belgium.

As per Belgian journalist David van den Broeck via X, Rangers have a concrete interest in Reynolds.

Not only that, the Gers are said to have already made contact with Westerlo over the Fort Worth native.

Reynolds is into the final year of his deal, meaning Westerlo are open to a sale this summer.

That paves the way for Rangers to swiftly wrap up a deal for Reynolds if their interest is as solid as it is made out to be.

How much do Westerlo want for Reynolds?

Given Reynolds is out of contract in a year's time, Westerlo do not have much bargaining power.

It is reported that the Belgian club hope to earn "a few million [Euros]" for the right-back if he goes this summer.

This is not the first right-back Rangers have been linked to, but it is interesting they have honed in on a target from the Belgian top flight.

In the meantime, long-serving Tavernier is still without a club following his exit from Ibrox at the end of last season.

A parting of the ways made total sense, but Rangers do need to ensure they are not left light in that area come the start of next season.
