Andy Halliday 'shocked' as he shares what he's been told on Nicolas Raskin and Rangers

Nicolas Raskin surprisingly stayed at Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The Belgium international was tipped to leave the Gers after his performances at the 2026 World Cup, but no deal materialised.

While the transfer window is still open in some countries, the 25-year-old may not have an appetite to move to a club outside the top five leagues.

The Ibrox hierarchy seemed ready to part ways with Raskin, but it looks like they didn't receive any suitable offers.

Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic were signed by the Glaswegian outfit this summer, which suggested that Derek McInnes was planning for a future without the Belgian star.

Besiktas were heavily interested in Raskin towards the end of the transfer window, but the Gers rejected the offers.

Halliday, who regularly appears on BBC Sportsound, was told that the Gers turned away a few proposals that didn't meet their valuation for the Belgium international at the start of the window.

The former Bears ace has claimed the Glaswegian outfit were looking to get around £15million for the midfielder and is surprised they couldn't get it.

Considering Arne Engels joined West Ham United for £22m from Celtic, the Govan side have every reason to expect a significant fee for Raskin.

Speaking on Open Goal on 7 September, Halliday said: "This is what I've been told - it might be wrong. Apparently, they did turn down a couple of bids at the start of the window from clubs because they didn't meet the valuation.

"The surprising thing for me, I think Rangers were asking for £15m. I'm shocked they couldn't get £15m, personally."

McInnes needed time to find his best system at Rangers and it looks like he has settled on one.

The Gers have set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, which has seen them go on a three-game unbeaten run in the William Hill Premiership.

Raskin will likely play a key role in the double pivot at least until January alongside Devlin or Neil.

Minsu Kim has been deployed behind the striker, with Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis preferred out wide.

While injuries could force McInnes to tweak his ideas, it seems the Glaswegian outfit have found their winning formula for now.
