Rangers find themselves in an awkward position as they prepare for the 2026-27 season, with Danny Rohl again linked with an exit.

After falling out of the title race, Rohl's future was called into question at the end of the term.

At the time, this was always going to be the case, with the Gers suffering four straight defeats heading into the final day.

However, just as things begin to look set in stone for the new campaign, fresh links have emerged between Rohl and Austrian outfit RB Salzburg.

The German boss arrived at Ibrox last October and managed to rescue Rangers from the slip that had started under Russell Martin.

Ultimately, this was not enough, with a dismal run of form towards the end leaving fans of the Govan outfit split, while his future at the helm remains far from certain.

Rangers preparation interrupted as fresh Danny Rohl talk emerges

After the end of the season, Rohl has a lot to prove to the Ibrox faithful, with a poor start to the coming term surely sealing his fate.

However, current reports suggest that he may not even last that long, with Salzburg interested in bringing in the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

What this does is completely alter the summer plans, with Rangers looking to build a side capable of challenging for the title for the first time since 2021.

Having already secured number-one target Lawrence Shankland, the Gers are said to be working hard to get the deals Rohl has earmarked for himself over the line.

As reported by the Daily Record, as per sources, this squad building could be scrapped entirely should the current boss depart, with a short pause potentially the most favourable outcome.

With those not at the World Cup due back in training a week on Monday, the club find themselves in a far from ideal situation.

Salzburg will have to pay a compensation fee to soften the blow, but the ongoing scenario could scupper Rangers' summer plans entirely, with not just a new manager required, but potentially a whole new list of targets too.

Rangers to hope for one outcome in Rohl exit scenario

Given the fact that planning is already well underway ahead of the coming season, Rangers will not be too happy about the siuation.

However, it does feel like this has been coming, with talks previously linking Rohl with jobs at both Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen in his native Germany.

That would go quiet, but there is a feeling that his future has not once felt fully secure, despite all of the planning going on around him.

If he is to leave, Rangers will hope it is done and dusted quickly.

But, the worst case scenario would be for this to continue dragging on - leaving the Gers dramatically underprepared going into what was originally hoped to be a title-chasing year.
