Rangers may have wrong man in Derek McInnes after what Jordan Rossiter's said
Jordan Rossiter has had his say on the managerial situation at Rangers.
Danny Rohl is set to depart to join Red Bull Salzburg, with Hearts boss Derek McInnes primed to replace him.
The Gers are reported to have already agreed a deal with the 54-year-old to take over in the dugout.
That is seen by many as a great move, after the Paisley-born boss led the Jambos to a second-place finish and nearly pipped Celtic to the title.
He is viewed as a man who knows what it takes to succeed and to do it the Rangers way, which is what many supporters have been desperate for.
However, they may have the wrong man after the former Ibrox ace spoke out on the situation.
Jordan Rossiter feels Steven Gerrard is right man for Rangers
Rossiter believes that Steven Gerrard would have been the ideal candidate for the post.
He claimed they need someone of his ilk to bring back the authority and to get the winning feeling back.
In an interview with Rangers Review on Sunday, he said: "I’d say it’s been a tough watch, going into the last five or 10 games of last season, we had a really good chance of going to win the league and it kind of petered out in the end with frustration.
"For the likes of the gaffer, Stevie – if he goes back in there, he will install that winning feeling again, as he did a few seasons ago. I don’t know what the future holds, but I’ll keep a watch from afar.
"For me personally, I do believe they need someone like that, and that’s something the gaffer tried to instil from the first day of pre-season and the first game. Everything is done properly every day.
"He has that aura because of the career he’s had, but also because he brought the most important league title to the club, going undefeated. It’s not for me to say, but I think they do need someone of that calibre and stature to really stamp down the authority again."
Why Rossiter wants Gerrard back at Rangers
Rossiter moved to the Gers in 2016, but only managed 16 games for the Light Blues across an injury-prone four years.
He is slightly biased towards Gerrard, as he was a teammate at Liverpool and then his boss with the Gers.
He revealed that he learnt a lot from the former Anfield man, so it makes sense that he thinks he is the right man for the job.
Only time will tell, whether he was right, but it looks like McInnes will be the man leading the G51 club.
He may end up being the wrong man, but he could reignite the fanbase, given his previous connection to the Glasgow club and the experience that he has within the Scottish game.
The 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh may end up turning to Gerrard if it all goes wrong, which would mean that they made the wrong choice once again.
Right now, though, McInnes must be handed the full backing of both the ownership and the fanbase to try and turn it around, and get the Govan side back to where they belong.
