Rangers land double win thanks to Andrew Cavenagh as appointment close

Published on

Rangers are about to pull off a double victory with the appointment of Derek McInnes, according to former striker Kris Boyd.

McInnes is believed to have already agreed terms with the Gers over succeeding Danny Rohl as head coach.

Rohl is expected to himself be confirmed as manager of RB Salzburg imminently.

While it is not known exactly when both announcements will be made, it is expected to be in hours rather than days.

McInnes arrives on the back of falling agonisingly close of ending the Old Firm duopoly in the Scottish Premiership title picture.

And Boyd is certainly happy with developments that have taken place over the past week.

Kris Boyd praises Andrew Cavenagh over managerial change

To say the picture has changed at Ibrox in no time at all would be a massive understatement.

After talk of Rohl potentially joining Wolfsburg went quiet, all focus was seemingly on the transfer window and next season.

How wrong we all were. Instead, Rohl is now taking over at Salzburg and McInnes will be coming in at Ibrox.

In the view of Boyd, not only have Rangers landed themselves an upgrade in McInnes, they have done so by making a profit in terms of compensation payments.

"I think if it does materialise the way you'd expect it to, I think you've got to say that Andrew Cavenagh and the Rangers board have played a blinder," Boyd told The Scottish Sun.

"Because there was a lot of Rangers fans unhappy when Andrew Cavenagh came out and backed Danny Rohl and thought that they wanting change, because it's all well getting back into a title race but the way it ended at the end, the way it finished at the end of the season wasn't great. There was a lot of question marks over Danny Rohl.

"For Andrew Cavenagh and the Rangers board to then look at it and say 'you know what we're going to back him'. I think they've came out with that fully expecting a club to come along and ask the question. And that's exactly what's happened.

"So from potentially having to pay another manager off, now Rangers are in a situation where they're going to get money for Danny Rohl and for me an upgrade on a manager."

While the disruption is obviously far from ideal, McInnes is a proven manager in Scotland and the Gers will only be stronger by having him in charge.

What is latest on Danny Rohl and Derek McInnes situations?

As of Sunday evening, the latest reports suggested the final details are being thrashed out for both deals to be done.

Agreements are in place and it is just a case of working on the final details.

Rangers are said to be in line for £2million in compensation for Rohl, which is a nice sum of money.

Around a quarter of that will go to Hearts for McInnes, but Rangers are still making a seven-figure profit.

All that is now left to do is to confirm Rohl's exit and McInnes' arrival so Rangers can move into yet another new chapter.
