Rangers fans to fear Kevin Muscat news as Shanghai Port scenes offers Ibrox warning
Rangers fans will be interested to learn that the club could revive talks with Kevin Muscat, should Danny Rohl walk out of Ibrox.
The current Gers boss has been linked with a move to RB Salzburg in recent days, and suggestions that the 49ers have drawn up replacements tell us he could be leaving.
Rangers have yet to grant Rohl permission to speak to the Austrian outfit, but there is a wish for both sides to find a solution quickly, even if that sees the German stay put.
The 37-year-old was behind both Steven Gerrard and Muscat in talks to become the new head coach when Russell Martin departed.
However, similarly to Gerrard's decision, Muscat chose to opt against re-joining the Bears, this time as the man in the hot seat.
The situation around Rohl should be solved either this weekend or the week to follow, as Gers would be due a hefty compensation payout, should he decide to join RB Salzburg.
However, Rangers fans may be shocked to learn how far Muscat has fallen at Shanghai Port since he was last linked with the head coach role at Ibrox.
Kevin Muscat's Shanghai Port have fallen apart
Muscat came close to being appointed Gers manager back in October, but a chaotic U-turn saw him stay in China with Shanghai Port.
The Aussie has had success in China, winning the Chinese Super League three consecutive times, along with a domestic FA Cup.
However, the Chinese Super League started back up in March, and Muscat could not have had much of a worse campaign so far.
After 15 games of play, Shanghai sit in 13th place, two spots of the relegation zone, with just four points separating them and 15th placed Wuhan Tree Towns.
Muscat has won just four league games this year, and would be coming to Ibrox a man whose philosophy has seemingly been figured out.
The 52-year-old is on a four-man list to replace Rohl, according to the Daily Record, as talks with RB Salzburg are ongoing.
Appointing Muscat would now be a risk, but context is required
It will rightly be a scary feeling to see Rangers linked with a manager who is underperforming so much right now. However, context is needed.
The Aussie manages a side which has an ageing squad, and claims suggest he hasn't been backed by the owners recently.
Players are underperforming, despite the metrics still having them as a decent side.
However, it is down to the manager to get results, and this recent run of poor form tempts a horrible fate at Ibrox.
