Rangers may revisit Kevin Muscat appointment after previous Ibrox admission
Rangers looked into the possibility of hiring Kevin Muscat prior to the appointment of Danny Rohl.
And those roles may be reversed this summer, with reports emerging this week connecting Rohl with the Salzburg job.
Both parties seem keen on reaching an agreement, with it potentially only a matter of days until progress is achieved.
Should that be the case, the Light Blues will need to move fast to bring in a replacement for the German.
Otherwise, their entire summer plans will be thrown out the window.
And with that in mind, there is a chance that those behind the scenes at Ibrox will entertain the idea of bringing Muscat to Glasgow.
What did Kevin Muscat say about Rangers job?
Muscat, at one point, looked almost certain to be the next Rangers manager, though a deal was never agreed.
With that said, it was confirmed that talks were held between the two parties, albeit with it failing to end with a positive conclusion.
The 52-year-old has been with Shanghai Port since 2023, but his previous comments certainly suggest that a deal could be revisited this summer, and this time, with a more positive outcome.
Back in November, he said: "I had some real positive talks with some really good people, real professional people.
"I’ve got a lot of respect for the people that I spoke with. The decision ended up where it ended up.
"It’s not really important who made what decision at what time.
"The reality is I don’t know what is next, so I’ll be just going about business as usual."
Muscat's managerial record examined
There will be several options considered if Rohl is to leave, but very few will be able to boast the success that Muscat has, albeit in arguably less challenging leagues.
His three-year spell with Shanghai Port has seen his side average 1.85 points per game, which is only marginally less than he managed throughout his time with Yokohama FM.
What stands out the most from his most recent job is the goal record.
Shanghai Port have scored 227 goals in 103 games, while also having conceded 144.
That level of attacking domination should not be overlooked, regardless of the decision in which it was achieved.
Many will still look towards the potential return of Steven Gerrard, but should all else fail, a move for Muscat would be far from the worst option the Gers could pursue this summer.
