Kris Boyd loves Rangers sack tactic as Danny Rohl exit set to hand them millions
Kris Boyd believes that Derek McInnes will be an upgrade on Danny Rohl, should Rangers complete their managerial switch with no last-minute hitches.
The Gers have agreed a deal to let Rohl join Austrian side RB Salzburg, with an official announcement set to be made this week.
Hearts boss McInnes is set to be his Ibrox successor, agreeing to take charge on a three-year contract.
It wasn't long ago that Andrew Cavenagh publicly backed Rohl to be the man to lead the Light Blues forward, but a twist now sees the German all but out of Glasgow.
The Americans had plans in place to support the 37-year-old in the summer transfer window, as seen with the signing of ex-Hearts skipper, Lawrence Shankland.
However, with a raid for the Jambos' head coach all but confirmed, Boyd believes they may have hoped for this outcome all along.
Kris Boyd says he feels Derek McInnes is an upgrade on Danny Rohl
Rangers fans were left upset and angry after Rohl blew the Bears' chance of winning the league with a historic run of losses in the post-split fixtures.
It wasn't long before then that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss was linked with a move back to his homeland of Germany, amid interest from VfL Wolfsburg.
So the 49ers and Cavenagh had some idea that Rohl was appreciated elsewhere in Europe, as they decided against sacking him, despite a strong consensus to do so among the fanbase.
Speaking to The Scottish Sun on recent events, Boyd revealed his thoughts about what could be a masterclass move from the board.
Boyd said: "You've got to say that if it does materialise, [Andrew] Cavenagh and the 49ers have played a blinder. For the Rangers' board to publicly say they're going to back him, I think they fully expected someone to come along and ask the question.
"From potentially having to pay a manager off, they're now in a situation where they're going to get money for Rohl, and for me, an upgrade."
Now, the Ibrox board are set to bank around £2million in compensation for Rohl's imminent move to Salzburg.
Did the 49ers plan for Rohl exit all along?
It does feel like what Boyd is suggesting has some legs.
Any other Rangers manager would have most likely been sacked after that four-game losing streak that cost the Gers the title, but Rohl stayed in a job.
What also makes it interesting is how fast Rangers decided that McInnes was their man, and the same can be said for how fast the Hearts boss agreed to an Ibrox switch.
Either way, they have definitely saved themselves some money by going against the decision to sack Rohl.
