Danny Rohl exit: What we know on 'bombshell' as Jurgen Klopp has say on Rangers boss

Published on

Danny Rohl is in talks over a Rangers exit, with Jurgen Klopp wanting him at Red Bull Salzburg.

Reports emerged on Thursday suggesting Salzburg had turned to Rohl after sacking Daniel Beichler.

Rohl was recently linked with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, but nothing came of that.

The German then gave an interview saying he was looking forward to next season after he was publicly backed by Andrew Cavenagh.

However, it is looking increasingly likely as though Rohl will be heading for the Ibrox exit.

Here, Ibrox News rounds up all the latest on the situation as Cavenagh and Co. face an unwanted headache.

Jurgen Klopp wants Danny Rohl at Red Bull Salzburg

Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp oversees day-to-day matters at Red Bull's stable of clubs.

Among those teams are Salzburg, who finished third last season to miss out on Champions League football.

After that disappointing finish last time out, manager Beichler was given the shove.

According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool legend Klopp is pushing for a German manager to take charge.

Rohl is considered a coach who can get the best out of young talents, and he was previously considered by Salzburg last summer.

Rangers want swift Rohl conclusion

Rangers thought talk over Rohl's future was firmly in the past following the previous links to Wolfsburg.

That is not the case, though, and the Gers now risk losing their manager just before the summer transfer window opens.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are weighing up Salzburg's "bombshell" bid for Rohl.

The 37-year-old has no release clause in his contract, so Salzburg will have to hand over a compensation fee the Gers are happy with.

The report reiterates that contact has already been made and the Austrian side are now pushing for a deal to be reached.

Either way, Rangers want the situation dealt with as soon as possible so that they can move on.

Rangers working on transfer regardless

The small positive is that this unwanted situation is playing out early in the close-season, rather than, say, a month from now.

If Rohl is to leave, Rangers would still have time to begin the interview process for his replacement and get someone in before pre-season.

Sky Sports report that Rangers are continuing to work away on transfers behind the scenes, too.

CEO Jim Gillespie, executive director Fraser Thornton, technical director Dan Purdy and consultant Stig Inge Bjornebye are tasked with making new signings.

Lawrence Shankland has already arrived, while other names have been strongly linked in recent days.

With or without Rohl, Rangers will not stand still in their pursuit of strengthening their squad.
