Alan Brazil can't believe what he's reading about Derek McInnes at Rangers

Derek McInnes has come under fire after a shocking start at Rangers.

The Scot was meant to come in as someone who knew Ibrox like the back of his hand.

Things haven't worked out that way as he has seriously struggled to get the best out of his side.

That has been summed up by his winless run to begin his tenure in charge of the Light Blues.

Struggles continued as the Gers were dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday.

McInnes has faced scrutiny after the aggregate defeat to Jagiellonia, with Alan Brazil left stunned by what's happened so far.

After such a superb campaign at Hearts, the 55-year-old coach was supposed to change the tide in Govan.

He had all the attributes that had fans dreaming of what was to come this season.

That expectation has quickly been dashed after four games and no wins for McInnes.

His Gers side have picked up just one point in the Scottish Premiership having drawn to Dundee United before a 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian.

A 2-1 loss followed by a 1-1 draw against Jagiellonia dumped the Light Blues out of the Europa League and cemented the start to the campaign as the worst of any manager in Rangers history.

That is something that Brazil just couldn't get his head round live via talkSPORT on Friday.

He said: "A slow start for Derek McInnes as Rangers boss has gone from bad to worse after last night's Europa League exit losing 3-2 on aggregate to Polish side Jagiellonia.

"Excluding caretakers, it's officially the worst four game start for any manager in Rangers history. Can you believe that? I thought he'd come in and do really well. I'm not saying it's over, that's ridiculous, but they've got to pick themselves up quickly."

Where are things going wrong for McInnes?

It's all well and good Brazil saying that things have to turn around fast, but what can actually be done?

There are many suggestions being made by supporters as obvious changes could have a telling effect.

McInnes' substitutions are one of those as his choices have been seriously questionable.

Taking off Thelo Aasgaard and replacing him with Ross McCrorie on Thursday was seriously odd and ultimately hampered the Gers.

There is also a need to firm up defensively, particularly at the heart of defence.

That isn't to say that the forward line has been any better as both Ryan Naderi and Lawrence Shankland have faced plenty of controversy.

There are clear ways that McInnes can improve his fortunes as he looks to right a terrible start to life back in Govan.
