Why Derek McInnes has scrapped Danny Rohl's pre-season plans for Rangers
Rangers' pre-season plans have taken a turn under Derek McInnes.
The new Ibrox boss has wielded his influence already in Govan as he has decided to scrap Danny Rohl's previous plans.
The Gers were set to go to Austria for their preparations, but they will now head to Spain instead in a last-minute change.
Rangers have already confirmed a home friendly against West Ham in July, but they are also set for games abroad.
They start their Scottish Premiership campaign against Dundee United on 31 July, looking to rebound from a miserable campaign.
McInnes will be keen to start strong and clearly did not like Rohl's plans as he has changed them.
Why did McInnes make the decision to alter Rangers' pre-season destination?
McInnes has made the decision to freshen up the squad's destination for the new season.
Chris Jack from the Rangers Review reported the initial news of the change and a follow-up from that publication reveals the reasoning.
It states that it is to recalibrate the players' camp to try and better prepare them for the upcoming season.
It makes sense as the squad will likely have less time to travel, meaning that they can get more done on the training field.
Who is already back in pre-season training at Rangers?
The players that were not involved in the World Cup are already back in training.
The likes of Bojan Miovski, Oliver Antman and Djeidi Gassama are among those who have already started to get to work.
Liam Kelly, Findlay Curtis, Lawrence Shankland and John Souttar are set to return on 12 July, when their mandatory 21-day break is over.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Raskin, who is still in action will Belgium will likely comeback after the season has already started, due to FIFA's regulations around holidays.
Thelo Aasgaard is another who is still at the tournament, with his Norway side preparing to face Brazil.
That is far from ideal for McInnes and his side, but unfortunately, there is nothing that they can do about it.
They will just have to get on with their pre-season without the midfielders and hope that they is up to full fitness whenever he does return.
The likes of Connor Barron, Mohamed Diomande and Tochi Chukwuani will hopefully be up to speed to make up for the missing players.
