Rangers vs Celtic injury latest as 11 potentially ruled out of Old Firm clash
The Bears get their Scottish League Cup campaign underway against Martin O'Neill's side on 13 September.
It will be the first chance for Derek McInnes to get one over on the Parkhead side.
More importantly, if they can secure victory it will show that they can compete with the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership title race this season.
Right now, they are five points off them, but they have a chance to eliminate them from the cup.
Both sides could have several key players missing when they meet at Ibrox.
Who is out for Rangers?
Rangers have been rocked by the news that Lawrence Shankland and Daisuke Yokota need surgery.
They will be both definitely miss the contest, and Youssef Chermiti is also confirmed to be out, as he is out for the season.
Tuur Rommens will be absent with the groin issue suffered against Hibernian still keeping him out.
Kosta Nedeljkovic is also out with a foot injury, and is not expected to return until the league clash with Celtic next week.
Jose Cifuentes is still missing after undergoing surgery in July, although he was unlikely to be in consideration anyway.
While six Light Blues stars could miss out, five Celtic men could also be absent, taking the total to 11.
Who is missing for Celtic in Rangers clash?
London Emenalo, Alistair Johnston, Hyun-jun Yang, Callum Osmand will all be expected to miss out for the Hoops.
The former came on loan from Chelsea with an issue, Johnston is out with a hamstring injury, Yang is at the Asian Cup and Osmand has an ankle issue.
Jota is back in training from the ACL injury, but the clash with the Gers will come too soon for him to make a return.
Given the injury issues for both sides, it promises to be an even more unpredictable contest than usual, when the tensions already make it a tense affair.
The Gers could take confidence with a victory, and they may fancy their chances with the absences that O'Neill's side have.
