Rangers star Nicolas Raskin made his World Cup debut for Belgium against Egypt, with his fellow countrymen Tuur Rommens watching.

After a frustrating end to the 2025-26 season, Raskin is hoping to enjoy a memorable summer at the World Cup with Belgium.

Rudi Garcia's side are hoping to finally be the Belgian team that goes all the way in a major tournament, having routinely fell short of their talent levels in recent times.

Prior to this summer's World Cup getting under way, Raskin had 13 senior international caps for his country, but hasn't really been able to win a consistent starting role.

Amid a backdrop of big question marks over his Rangers future, the 25-year-old could be looking to put himself in the shop window with his performances over the coming weeks.

So, whilst he didn't start in Belgium's opening World Cup group game with Egypt, the Gers midfielder did get on the pitch eventually in Seattle.

What did Nicolas Raskin say after Belgium World Cup debut?

As with any World Cup squad selection, managers crush as many dreams as they make.

Unfortunately for Rangers left-back Rommens, he was in the former of those two groups, having not been selected by Garcia in this Belgium team.

Indeed, the 23-year-old is still waiting to receive his first senior cap for the Red Devils, having represented his country a handful of times at various youth levels.

He will of course still be cheering on the team in North America this summer, and especially his Rangers teammate Raskin.

Posting to his Instagram account on Tuesday evening following Belgium's 1-1 draw with Egypt, Raskin marked the fact his 34-minute cameo from the bench in the second half was his debut outing at a World Cup.

"World Cup debut! We take the positives and build on," he wrote to his followers.

Taking to the comments underneath, Rommens responded to Raskin's milestone moment by saying: "Bellissimo," which is an Italian adjective for beautiful.

Current and ex-Rangers stars react to Raskin's post

Rommens wasn't the only Rangers player reacting to Raskin's Belgium post, with a host of current and former Gers stars celebrating in his achievement.

Also leaving likes were former Rangers players: Todd Cantwell, Rabbi Matondo, Ianis Hagi, Danilo, Hamza Igamane, Steven Davis, Jefte, Ryan Jack, Robbie Fraser, Cyriel Dessers and Robin Propper.

Belgium's next game is against Iran on Sunday evening at 8pm UK time, before they finish their group stage campaign against New Zealand at 4am UK time on Saturday 27 June.
