Brentford keeping close eye on Rangers ace Ross McCausland, Ibrox talks ongoing

Brentford are keeping tabs on Ross McCausland with a view to making a move for the Rangers ace, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish publication reported on its website on Monday (20 November) that the Gers hope to tie the youngster down to a new contract.

McCausland has broken into the Gers' first team in recent weeks, but he is due to become a free agent next summer if new terms are not agreed.

The report adds that Brentford are known for taking "a gamble" on players, and the 20-year-old is available for just £300,000 in training compensation as things stand.

Big talent

McCausland is a Rangers supporter who is now living the dream, having not only made an impact at senior level this season but also earned his first cap for Northern Ireland.

The forward was brought into the fold during Steven Davis' caretaker spell in charge and has clearly done enough to impress Philippe Clement, given he has featured in five of the Gers' seven games under the Belgian.

Add into the equation that he is still six months short of his 21st birthday, and you have to fancy Rangers' chances of getting McCausland to sign a new deal.

However, if this interest from Brentford is solid, then it would be easy for the player's head to be turned. The Bees, after all, are a club that have showed they are also willing to use youngsters.

Rangers fans can probably accept that McCausland will not be at Ibrox for the duration of his career, but the hope is that we can at least get a few years out of him once he fully develops, before selling for a sizeable fee down the line.

The more immediate priority, though, is that he first commits to the club beyond the end of this season.
