Rangers are not in active talks to sign Burnley defender Hjalmar Ekdal, according to the Rangers Review.

It is reported on 14 January that the Swede is known at Ibrox, but the Bears have decided to pursue other options despite his availability at Turf Moor.

Rangers were said to be in dialogue over a loan move for the 26-year-old, with competition from England and Italy for a deal (Expressen).

Hjalmar Ekdal update at Rangers

This appears to be another name that can be ticked off the list.

Nils Koppen is now operating a tighter ship with transfers, with the arrivals of Fraser Thornton and Patrick Stewart taking the heat off his back.

There is a desperate need for new signings to arrive at Ibrox though, with an injury crisis in defence and shocking form on the pitch.

Philippe Clement sits 15 points behind Brendan Rodgers and Celtic, but is currently missing John Souttar, Leon Balogun, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, James Tavernier and Dujon Sterling.

Pressure is growing on Clement and after being publically backed, the board now need to back him with sufficient transfers to improve things.

Ekdal doesn't look like he will be one of those, but there has to be some movement soon or there will be a bigger revolt coming from the stands.

Given this update, you would hope that another name will emerge soon to come in and sign.
