Rangers could welcome the most dangerous version of Lawrence Shankland back to Auchenhowie this summer for different reasons.

Gers finally captured the ex-Hearts skipper before the start of the transfer window, announcing his signing before he departed for international duty.

Shankland is in red-hot form ahead of Scotland's World Cup campaign, and that can only be a positive for Danny Rohl's side.

The Bears will have to wait and see how far Scotland go in the tournament before they welcome the striker back for pre-season, as the final is due to be held on 19 July.

Either way, Shankland's recent goal-scoring antics may have every Scottish football fan convinced that Rangers have made the signing of the summer.

Lawrence Shankland showing different hunger before Rangers return

Hearts will no doubt be a threat to Rangers once more next season, but Derek McInnes' side is already at a disadvantage after losing their skipper and talisman.

Shankland grabbed 16 goals for the Jambos last campaign, scoring in the final day defeat to Celtic, which cruelly saw him miss out on the chance to bring silverware back to Tynecastle.

However, his pain must have been erased quickly when he got the opportunity to finally sign for his boyhood club, Gers.

Now, the 30-year-old looks hungrier than ever for success and is banging the goals in for fun with Scotland, netting three times in friendlies against Curacao and Bolivia.

He even picked up an assist against the latter, and Rohl will be selfishly hoping he has the best World Cup campaign possible, while making an early return to Glasgow.

Shankland's position for Scotland brings up Rangers question

Shankland has been playing in a striking partnership in the last two games for Scotland, similar to how he was utilised for Hearts in a 4-4-2 formation.

Rohl's preferred formation seems to be a 4-2-3-1, and the most we ever saw of a two-striker formation is when Ryan Naderi played behind Youssef Chermiti.

However, assuming Chermiti stays at Ibrox, it would mean that unless Rohl changes formation or drops one of him and Shankland, one of the two would have a new role.

Rangers fans will be questioning how Rangers lineup next season, as surely the philosophy won't be changed for one player.

Either way, Gers will be happy to welcome an in-form Shankland back to Auchenhowie ahead of what should be a title-winning season.
