Rangers player ratings vs St Mirren - Djeidi Gassama unplayable, Emmanuel Fernandez lazy
Derek McInnes has been under immense pressure to turn things around after failing to win in any of his opening four competitive matches.
McInnes cannot be accussed of not being backed in the market with ten new additions brought into the Gers' squad this summer.
Questions could be asked of whether those players are good enough to take the Bears where they need to be.
Especially with five of those new arrivals selected against the Buddies but those fears will be quashed, at least in the short-term.
Here is how McInnes' side got on against St Mirren as they finally get off the mark.
Djeidi Gassama produces unplayable wide display
Djeidi Gassama was in no doubt Rangers' most impressive player at Ibrox.
The winger was involved in all of the positive actions and St Mirren struggled to deal with his speed.
For the opening goal, his refusal to give up on winning the ball proved to be crucial as Ryan Naderi got onto the end of his header inside the box.
Then, he would strike the bar with an emphatic effort in the first-half with his performance deserving of a goal.
He would finally get that much deserved strike, when in the second half he raced through on goal to lift the nerves at Ibrox and restore a two-goal lead.
While much has been said about the need for the Gers' to add to their wide options, Gassama showcased today he can be a danger man in those areas.
Emmanuel Fernandez far from his best at Ibrox
Emmanuel Fernandez was a colossus last season but against St Mirren, he produced what can only be described as a lazy showing.
The Nigerian defender looked often bet by the Buddies front-line with Olwethu Makhanya the clear standout between the two.
In the first half, he gave away an easy free-kick which resulted in a yellow card.
And then in the second-half conceded a penalty which he really should have done better with.
Instead, it was a clumsy and lazy effort at preventing a goal.
Luckily, Ivor Pandur spared his blushes by saving Killian Phillips' retaken penalty at Ibrox.
And it was a performance he will want to forget and move quickly on from.
