Keith Jackson believes that Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes is an outstanding candidate for the Rangers job.

The Daily Record journalist cited the game against Celtic over the weekend which the Hoops won 2-0 but were the second best side for large parts of the game.

Gers have struggled this season under Philippe Clement and find themselves nine points off the top of the league.

Jackson told Record Sport's Hotline on 11 November: "There is an outstanding candidate who's only 10 minutes down the road in Derek McInnes. It actually beggars belief that there's not a conversation taking place about it.

"The weekend, you got the latest evidence. Okay, Celtic got away from Rugby Park with a 2-0 win but for long periods of that game, they were the second best team on that pitch.

"For me, I'm looking at this Rangers side, and I think Rangers fans will be crying out for their side to look as capable, as competent when they're playing their neighbours from across town."

Rangers must consider Derek McInnes to replace Philippe Clement

Jackson hits the nail on the head here and Gers fans will surely be annoyed that it takes something brilliant from one of their players to get something from Celtic games over the last year or two.

The Ibrox outfit should be so strong that even if they're going to Parkhead, they must go out there and expect to dominate proceedings and win.

However, under Clement, they've often played like underdogs in Old Firm derbies and that cannot continue to happen.

McInnes has shown what he can achieve on a small budget at Kilmarnock and he knows what the culture at Ibrox is.

He's got good experience in Scotland and he's also won trophies so there's very little that rules him out of contention for the job.

Hopefully, the board decide to act and bring in the Scotsman as he can help take this team to the next level.
