Derek McInnes is understood to be the favourite to be the next Rangers manager should Philippe Clement be sacked, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on 31 October that the Kilmarnock manager, who turned down joining Ibrox in 2017, is once again in the running to take over the reins.

Clement is understood to be facing the pressure as the Aberdeen loss has now put them nine points adrift of the top of the table.

Derek McInnes may actually be a decent appointment for Rangers

McInnes, with his extensive managerial experience and a proven track record at both Aberdeen and Kilmarnock and winning the second-tier league with St Johnstone, would be an astute choice for Gers.

His time at Aberdeen saw him transform the team into a formidable force in Scottish football, consistently challenging the Old Firm's dominance and even securing silverware.

McInnes's familiarity with Rangers, having played there for five years, adds a level of understanding of the club's culture and expectations, which could resonate well with the fans and board alike.

Moreover, his recent success at Kilmarnock, navigating them through challenging seasons and into European competition, showcases his capability to manage under pressure and develop a squad.

His pragmatic approach to football, coupled with a knack for unearthing and developing talent, aligns well with the club's needs, suggesting he could stabilise and elevate the team.
