It is more than fair to say that Rangers did not get every decision right last season.

The decision to appoint Russell Martin proved nothing short of a shocker and left Rangers constantly chasing their tail in the Scottish Premiership.

Indeed, that whole debacle proved costly for former chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, who were both sacked last November.

Rangers have taken steps to get their ducks in a row since then, though, and the manner in which they dealt with Danny Rohl's exit was impressive.

Derek McInnes was convinced to make the move from Hearts, and extensive work is being done to improve the first-team squad.

But, away from the first-team picture, Rangers have made another smart off-pitch move that could benefit the talent of tomorrow.

Rangers find replacement for Raith Rovers link-up

Ibrox News has previously covered reports that Rangers were ready to end an agreement to send development talent to Raith Rovers.

Rangers had an agreement in place with Championship club Raith last term, but only Josh Gentles was sent there as part of the agreement.

He would later be recalled and sent elsewhere, though Paul Nsio did join Raith as part of a normal loan arrangement.

It has now been confirmed that Rangers have found a new partner in the Scottish Championship in the form of Queen's Park.

The agreement allows for greater flexibility, and the players chosen for the co-operation can move between the teams.

Three players will be permitted to join the Spiders as part of the agreement, which was announced on Monday.

Rangers can ultimately benefit from flexible arrangement

Rangers have a similar aggrement with Alloa Athletic, who are the Gers' League One partner club.

Calum Adamson, Gentles (after his Raith spell), and Lewis Stewart all spent time with Alloa to further their development.

These sorts of arrangements bring mutual benefits, with clubs further down the pyramids able to flesh out their squads.

For Rangers, their stars of tomorrow are being exposed to senior football and gaining a valuable education in their development.

It is another sign of the smart moves being taken off the pitch, and it is a decision that really should be applauded.

Let's hope it brings long-term benefits for Rangers.
