Rangers: Lawrence Shankland has every right to fume with Steve Clarke after latest Scotland farce
Rangers star Lawrence Shankland was left on the bench in Scotland's World Cup defeat to Morocco, and Steve Clarke has some explaining to do.
The Bears were already excited to welcome the striker back to Glasgow following the World Cup, but the arrival of Derek McInnes has only made his signing even sweeter,
After Danny Rohl showed signs he wanted to leave Ibrox for RB Salzburg, the Gers decided it was time to perform another Tynecastle heist, reuniting McInnes with Shankland.
However, the forward's favourite manager certainly won't be Clarke after the Scotland boss decided to leave him out of the starting lineup to face Morocco.
The Tartan Army were defeated 1-0 after a controversial penalty call prevented them from getting back in the game, and no goals suggest Clarke got this one all wrong.
When you break it down, Shankland will have every right to be raging after this latest snub.
Lawrence Shankland will fume at being an unused substitute - here's why
Shankland started in Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti, playing the majority of the game and helping his side to three points.
Those same three points may be the reason why Scotland progress to the knockout stages, especially if they fail to get anything against Brazil on Wednesday.
Clarke opted to start Che Adams as the lone centre-forward and brought on Lydon Dykes and Ross Stewart in search of a late equaliser.
Though Shankland didn't score against Haiti, he was coming to North America as arguably Scotland's most in-form player.
He grabbed a brace in the friendly against Curacao and a goal and assist in the 4-0 win over Bolivia.
So, to see him unable to get a single minute against Morocco is a complete farce, especially when his side were in need of a true goalscorer.
Shankland is Scotland's best striker; it's not even a debate
Shankland should be starting every single match for the Tartan Army if they want to be serious at the World Cup.
Thankfully, Haiti look useless, which is the only reason why Scotland looks like they will progress to the round of 32, keeping Clarke in a job for a little longer.
There's no reason why Scotland can't make a statement against Brazil, who also failed to beat a good Morocco side, but that won't be anywhere near as possible without Shankland.
He is the nation's most in-form striker, and the best one at that.
