Rangers formalise big-name Ibrox exit as paperwork drops on Companies House

Rangers have formalised Patrick Stewart's exit as chief executive by filing the official documents on the companies house website.

Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell were sacked by Rangers on Monday in a huge call from Andrew Cavenagh.

Rangers now face the prospect of paying out millions following that seismic double exit, which leaves a couple of voids to be filled.

Explaining the decision, Cavenagh said the Gers "need something different" in what has been a tough start to this new ownership.

Two days on from Stewart's exit being announced by Rangers, it was formally lodged on the companies house website on Wednesday.

The date of the Stewart's termination was given as 24 November, and he is now no longer listed as a director on the Ibrox board.

It brings an end to Stewart's 12-month spell at Ibrox, with his sacking coming almost a year to the day of his appointment.

Patrick Stewart had been under the Rangers spotlight for a while, with Kris Boyd among those to back the Gers' call to get rid.

Thelwell's exit has not been announced via the Companies House website, but he held a different type of role to Stewart.

Rohl was inevitably asked about the double exit at his press conference on Wednesday ahead of the clash with Braga.

As expected, Rohl said his focus was simply on Rangers' next match - the visit of Braga in the Europa League on Thursday - though he did add he's been given backing by the 49ers.

  • Stewart was appointed by Rangers in November 2024
  • Thelwell was appointed in April 2025 and officially started his position this summer
  • The exits of both men were announced on 24 November in a bombshell statement

Rohl added that he is in daily contact with Cavenagh and the club are now looking ahead to what will hopefully be a calmer future.

Rangers have undergone numerous changes both on and off the field over the past year, not least in the dugout as Rohl is the third new permanent manager of 2025.

Once one or two new figures are brought in to replace Stewart and Thelwell, Rangers quite simply need a period of stability. Whether or not they get that, though, is another matter entirely.
