The Gers played out a goalless draw against the Hammers at Ibrox on Sunday to get more minutes in the legs.

Now the focus for Derek McInnes and his side is Friday's Scottish Premiership opener at Dundee United on Friday.

There was plenty to like about the draw against West Ham, and some things to work on as you would expect after a pre-season game.

Devlin was brought to Ibrox on a free transfer to reunite him with McInness after they worked together at Hearts.

Ibrox News provided extensive coverage as Rangers moved to sign Devlin from Hearts earlier this summer.

The diminutive midfiedler has earned a reputation as somewhat of a wind-up merchant during his time playing in Scotland.

That was on display against West Ham, and footage circulating on social media showed on interaction where he was getting into the face of Taty Castellanos.

When referee Don Robertson walked over, Devlin opted to play the innocent party in the situation.

It is the sort of behaviour that is sure to rile up opposition supporters.

But make no mistake about it, Rangers really need more players with a bit of needle about them, who are not afraid to get dirty in the heat of the battle.

Every teams needs characters like that in their side, espcially in the nitty, gritty of a fight for supremacy in the Scottish Premiership.

When things get undoubtedly get tough in the league this season, you can absolutely count on the fact that Devlin will not shy away from the fight.

What do Rangers need to do before Dundee United clash?

Rangers have worked hard on improving the spine of the team during the transfer window.

Ivor Pandur, Ben Godfrey, Ross McCrorie, Devlin, Dan Neil, Vanja Dragojevic, and Lawrence Shankland have all arrived.

But it is abundantly clear that the Gers need some creativity added to the wide areas, preferably before Friday's clash.

Thelo Aasgaard was looking in good nick before going off injury, but the hope is he will be fine to play against United.
