Rangers fans will back Emmanuel Petit after brutal put-down of Jack Butland
Emmanuel Petit hasn't held back when discussing former Rangers man Jack Butland.
The Englishman certainly had a mixed spell at Ibrox after signing from Manchester United in 2023.
He was the go-to man throughout that three years other than a brief period under Barry Ferguson.
That continued until the most recent campaign, but he has now made his move away to Hull City.
Ivor Pandur has now come in to be the new number one at Ibrox after long-term links to the Govan club.
That change has certainly been welcomed by fans in G51, with Petit's comments likely to go down well with them.
Why did Emmanuel Petit laugh at Jack Butland?
The World Cup has dragged up contrasting opinions and Jordan Pickford is certainly someone who creates conversation.
The England international is seen by many as a top-class shot-stopper, while others are definitely unsure about his quality.
That has seen debate spark throughout the summer tournament, with the ex-Govan keeper defending him regularly.
Ibrox News previously covered Butland discussing his Hull City switch on talkSPORT, but he has also spoken out in favour of Pickford.
Speaking on Monday, he suggested that the Englishman wasn't at fault as Andreas Schjelderup's cross-come-shot opened the scoring for Norway against England in the World Cup quarter-final.
That opinion was shared by talkSPORT host Shebahn Aherne on Tuesday as she said: "We had a former England goalkeeper on yesterday. Jack Butland said that he [Pickford] couldn't have done anything else."
It's safe to say that Petit wasn't having it as he chuckled before suggesting that the former Rangers man had an ulterior motive.
The Arsenal legend replied while laughing, "Alright. He's a goalkeeper? There is a union, yeah, of course."
The comment at expense of Butland will likely go down well in Govan considering he hardly performed at the top level in his final weeks and months with the Gers.
Petit has every right to jibe at former Rangers man Butland
The keeper is being utilised as goalkeeping exit for the national radio station, while also having ties to the England national team.
He was quick to defend his old international colleague as a bizarre effort found the top corner, despite looking more like a cross initially.
Butland said that it was a "difficult one to deal with", before adding that "I really don't know what more he could have done positionally to stop it."
The thing is that the ex-Stoke City man made his fair share of mistakes at Ibrox, so isn't in a great position to highlight what appeared to be a goalkeeping error.
He made six errors that led to goal in his last two seasons in Govan, which obviously isn't good enough.
That caused frustration for the Light Blues faithful and they will probably agree with what Petit is saying about his Pickford opinion.
