Angus Gunn has been tipped for a potential move to Rangers this summer and he performed well as Scotland beat Haiti in their World Cup opener.

Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson name-dropped Gers as a possible landing spot for Gunn this summer.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been named as Scotland's number one for their World Cup campaign by Steve Clarke.

Gunn will become a free agent this summer, too, after Nottingham Forest confirmed that he will leave at the expiration of his contract.

With Jack Butland possibly playing his way out of his role as Rangers' number one towards the end of last season, a new starting shot-stopper could be on Gers' transfer to-do list.

His performance in Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti in the early hours of Sunday morning UK time, offered a fascinating glimpse into the potential bargain Rangers could get with him too.

How did Angus Gunn fare for Scotland vs Haiti?

With Haiti being the weakest team on paper in a Group C that also consists of Brazil and Morocco, Scotland were expected to kick-start their tournament with a comfortable win.

However, Sebastien Migne's men gave the Tartan Army a real good game in Boston, even enjoying more possession (54 per cent) and putting 15 shots on goal to Scotland's nine respectively.

It would be Scotland's night though, as a deflected effort from Aston Villa's John McGinn would hand them a 1-0 victory to send them to the top of the group.

Gunn played the full 90 minutes, and had to be alert in order to preserve his and the Scots' clean sheet.

As per FotMob, he was forced into making two saves by the Haitians, both of which were from efforts inside the box, with his second stop being in the 94th minute of the game.

He also made eight recoveries and one high claim, as well as preventing 0.22 goals and completing 25 accurate passes.

Gunn had to remain switched on for the duration of the match, and did what he needed to do when called upon to deny Haiti.

Rangers switch for Angus Gunn mooted as fresh Jack Butland doubts raised

Rangers could have interesting Gunn gamble to make

Obviously, it remains to be seen whether Gunn is a player that Rangers chiefs like and would be interested in signing this summer.

If he is, then Ibrox decision-makers could be forced to earn their money on how they approach making a swoop for the soon-to-be free agent.

Gunn's big tests will come against Brazil and Morocco respectively, where Scotland are expected to be under serious pressure and he's sure to have plenty of work to do.

But, if the experienced goalkeeper was to perform well against those two elite teams, then the market for his signature could seriously start hotting up.

In that event, Gers may face too much competition to win his services, and thus making a move for him now could see them jump the queue in that respect.

Or, they could also decide to sit on their hands and wait to see how he gets in those remaining group games, as should Scotland be on an early flight home, Gers may have a relatively free run at him.
