Rangers: Belgian media react to 'not exactly impressive' Nicolas Raskin vs Iran
Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin failed to show his quality on Sunday as Belgium played out a goalless draw with Iran in the World Cup.
After drawing 1-1 with Egypt, the Group G favourites were left in need of a win as they made the trip to Los Angeles.
And much like last Monday, the Red Devils would flatter to deceive, with lots of the ball but nothing to show for it.
Failing to score from 23 shots, Rudi Garcia's side remain on two points, while Iran very much could have taken all three, with Mehdi Taremi having a goal disallowed for offside.
Raskin would start his first match of the tournament alongside Aston Villa man Youri Tielemans.
But for all the possession, he - like his teammates - was unable to make the difference, prompting a strong reaction from the Belgian media.
Belgian reactions come in as Red Devils squander opportunity
Starting in place of Amadou Onana, the goal was clear in the fact that Garcia wanted his side to take control of possession, after suffering rather hectic periods against Egypt.
In their player ratings, Nieuwsblad would hand him a 5/10 score.
"As expected, he was preferred over Onana, He brought more technical ability to the game, though with the necessary risks: a few times he played the ball too easily into the path of an Iranian player. Not exactly impressive," it was said.
This would be echoed in their analysis of the match, with Raskin's replacement Hans Vanaken praised for the showing following his arrival in the 58th minute.
"Just as the Red Devils seemed to be taking control of the game following the substitutions of Vanaken and Lukebakio, [Nathan] Ngoy received that red card."
Goal Belgium would also follow a similar chain of analysis, also handing Raskin a 5/10, saying: "Saw a lot of the ball but kept things very simple in a bid to keep possession. Lasted less than an hour before being replaced by Vanaken."
What will the plans be with Nico Raskin this summer?
Previously, it had been reported that Raskin could be set for a move away from Ibrox this summer.
However, that could well change as a result of Derek McInnes' arrival, alongside the fact that Belgium's performances currently point in the direction of an earlier exit than they would have envisaged.
The talent is most certainly there with the midfielder, who may believe he is ready for a move away
But, the best option may just be to get back to Glasgow and have conversations with McInnes regarding the coming term, with Raskin potentially enticed by the project at Ibrox.
