BBC Scotland have admitted to a breach of standards after having talks with Stuart Cosgrove about his comments on Rangers legend Richard Gough.

A complaint was made against Cosgrove by a listener due to a comment he made on Gough's stance on apartheid, per the Scottish Sun (28 March).

BBC admitted that this was a personal attack made on someone without him being given the chance to respond.

BBC do right by Rangers hero Richard Gough

The BBC took appropriate action by acknowledging and addressing the breaches of broadcast standards committed by Cosgrove.

His claim, insinuating his stance on apartheid, was deemed unacceptable as it constituted a personal attack without the opportunity for the ex Gers player Gough to respond.

While it's commendable that the BBC resolved these issues promptly, it underscores the importance of upholding professional standards and avoiding potentially harmful or offensive content.

Broadcasters have a responsibility to maintain integrity, respect and fairness in their programming, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all listeners.

Such comments have no place in responsible journalism and should be avoided to uphold the broadcaster's reputation and credibility.
