Rangers and Celtic fans can set aside their rivalry for once to support Andy Halliday.

For years now, those down south have disrespected Scottish football as the Premier League continues to grow into a financial behemoth.

The quality of teams in the English top flight has indeed improved over the last three decades, but that doesn't take away from the history the two Glaswegian outfits have built.

Jason Cundy remains one of the small media figures in England who keep taking shots at Rangers and Celtic.

The ex-Chelsea defender is a windup merchant who doesn't have the wherewithal to recognise the importance of the two teams up north.

For once, the fanbases of the two Old Firm clubs can come together to call out the arrogance from some in the Premier League.

Jason Cundy in hysterics after hearing Rangers and Celtic claim

Rangers were knocked out of Europe early on in the season, while Celtic aren't having the best of time in the Europa League.

In the last two seasons, the two Glaswegian giants have failed to represent Scottish football properly at the biggest stage.

However, that in no way diminishes the size and history of the two Old Firm clubs, something Cundy has contested.

When Halliday called the two Scottish clubs European powerhouses, the talkSPORT presenter burst out in hysterics

Speaking on talkSPORT on 15 October, the former Motherwell ace said, "I think in terms of size, the stature, history and fanbase of the clubs, for me there's no doubt that Rangers and Celtic are European powerhouses."

Cundy responded, "What do you mean European powerhouses?"

Halliday continued, "In terms of history, tradition and fanbases, it's not even close. You can't tell me that Rangers and Celtic aren't one of the most supported clubs in world football."

Cundy added, "In a thousand years' time, there will be some idiot sitting there like you saying exactly the same thing and then nothing will have changed."

How Derek McInnes can bring glory days back to Ibrox

It's worth remembering that Celtic and Rangers have both won European trophies.

Aberdeen are another team in the north that hold European pedigree.

The current situation in Scottish football is worrying, but that doesn't mean the history doesn't matter.

With the right governance and club ownership, there could be a massive change soon.

Tony Bloom has come in and turned Hearts into a solid organisation.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have splashed the cash in Govan and finally seem to be getting things right.

Derek McInnes struggled at the start of the season, but things look much better right now, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Light Blues win the league title this season.

The Gers could have a chance to feature in the Champions League next season, and fans will be confident that the American owners will have them well prepared for it.
