Rangers returned to domestic action with a victory over Kilmarnock at the weekend.

The Gers made it seven straight wins in all competitions by triumphing 3-1 over Derek McInnes' former employers at Ibrox.

All three of Rangers' goals arrived in the first half, with Ryan Naderi on target twice and Kevin Kelsy also on target.

It continued Rangers' momentum from before the international break, and means the Gers remain just two points adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

However, McInnes was not fully satisfied after the weekend victory despite the seemingly comfortable nature of the scoreline.

And the former Hearts boss pin-pointed exactly why he felt Rangers were not at the standard he expects, with journalist Mark Guidi in agreement with his view.

Mark Guidi wants calendar change after Derek McInnes' Rangers gripe

This season, FIFA's international calendar saw the September and October international breaks combined into one elongated window.

It means that international breaks over September, October, and November cover five instead of six weeks.

However, speaking after the Kilmarnock win, McInnes stated that his side lacked fluency following the return of domestic football.

Indeed, he felt that three-week break between games played a big part in Rangers' perceived lack of cohesion.

Guidi, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, agreed with McInnes' assertion and wants FIFA to have a rethink, even though he does not expect them to.

He said: "I agree with Derek 100 per cent, it's a great point he makes, the clubs pay the wages.

"You've got them back into pre-season, the window's just closed, then within three weeks your squad's taken away from you.

"It is wrong, the powers that be, UEFA or FIFA, they're not going to be looking at it, but it should be (looked at), it's wrong.

"I know they've got the full flow of October then November they break up again, but the international calendar is wrong, those four games, being away, I agree with Derek 100 per cent."

International changes has pros and cons

This is a tricky one, and you can totally see why McInnes feels the way he does from his position as a manager.

Having three weeks without his squad being together is far from ideal, and especially so early in the campaign when his squad had only just been fully assembled.

From a fan's perspective, though, you could argue that while the extended gap is a long one, it does mean it's not quite as stop-start having three separate breaks.

It's a bit of a thankless task trying to find a scenario that suits club managers and international teams.

McInnes' frustration is entirely understandable from his view point, but ultimately it does save a week and that's the argument FIFA would point to.
