A senior figure at Nantes' academy is thrilled that Rangers managed to secure the services of Clinton Nsiala from AC Milan this summer.

Gers moved quickly to secure the permanent transfer of the 20-year-old French centre-back and announced it on 10 June.

Nantes are aware that the centre-back made decisions first to move to Milan and then Ibrox for the quick progression of his career.

Chris Jack wrote in the Rangers Review piece on 14 June: "There were no hard feelings at Nantes then and there are none today, with one senior figure at the academy expressing his delight to the Rangers Review that their former pupil had joined a club with such standing in the game and with aspirations of future success.

"Nsiala was, much like this summer, not short of offers at that stage and he wished to move through the levels quicker than the plan that Nantes presented him. That belief in his ability has now taken him to Ibrox."

Clinton Nsiala is a quality addition for Rangers

Nsiala's move to from AC Milan is a significant acquisition for the Scottish club.

The 20-year-old French centre-back was highly sought after, with Gers managing to secure his signature ahead of a host of clubs.

Nsiala's pedigree is impressive, having come through the ranks at FC Nantes and then moving to AC Milan, where he was a regular fixture in the under-19s side and played UEFA Youth League.

His left-footedness adds a different dimension to Rangers' defence and it could spell the beginning of the end of Ben Davies' time at the club.

He is known for his physicality, heading and duel success rate, and his ability to build attacks from the back with his passing.

Philippe Clement will certainly be impressed with these attributes and it will be a surprise if Nsiala is not in immediate contention for the first team next season as he was impressed with the project.

Philippe Clement will be keen for Rangers to continue spending this summer.

Hopefully, he's eased into the side rather than expected to start and deliver week in and week out.
