Rangers have confirmed the departure of Mateusz Zukowski, as the 20-year-old right-back joins Lech Poznan on loan.

The Polish under-21 international has returned to his home country on a season-long agreement from the Gers.

He featured in one first-team game for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side's Scottish Cup win against Annan in February.

Good move

Zukowski is contracted to Rangers until the summer of 2025, so sending the 20-year-old right back out on loan seems the best move by the club.

He is at an age where he needs to be playing regular first-team football instead of under-23 and youth-team football.

Returning to Poland also sees Zukowski play in an environment that he is comfortable with and potentially gives him the best possible chance of developing over the 2022/23 season.

The Gers have a plethora of youth talent on their books and that can sometimes see some of their prospects be starved of first-team football for far too long.

With some high-profile departures happening at Ibrox over the summer, it is important for the Gers to show faith in their youngsters and ensure that they are given first-team chances.

The likes of Zukowski could go on to be assets for the club in the future.

He is clearly a talented player having already represented Poland at under-21 level and has already experienced a loan spell in the past.

It's up to Zukowski to really make an impression on his stint away from Ibrox and give van Bronckhorst a decision to make when he returns.
