Local media react to what Rangers loanee Lewis Stewart did for Queen's Park vs Inverness
Rangers loanee Lewis Stewart had a big hand in Queen's Park's 2-1 win over Inverness on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old winger, alongside fellow Gers academy talent Aiden McCallion, joined Queen's Park on a co-operation loan deal back in July.
It means that the pair can move between parent and co-operation clubs throughout the course of the season.
Stewart spent last season out on loan with Alloa Athletic, where he scored three goals and provided four assists in 30 games for the League One side.
Now stepping up to Scottish Championship level with Queen's Park, the teenager is hoping to take another step closer to being in Rangers' first-team picture.
Should he continue to put in more performances like the one he did on Tuesday night, he's sure to catch Derek McInnes' attention soon enough.
What was said about Lewis Stewart's Queens Park display vs Inverness?
It's been a rough start to the 2026-27 season for Queen's Park, having only one once from their opening nine games ahead of Tuesday night.
Scotland's oldest club welcomed Inverness to Lesser Hampden, with Thistle sitting in mid-table.
An Aidan Connolly brace helped Queen's Park to a vital 2-1 victory, and Stewart had a big hand in the two goals.
The Rangers loanee provided the assist for the first goal, before playing the ball that led up to Michael Ruth turning provider for the second.
Describing the first goal, Press and Journal wrote: "The chance looked as though it had gone until Lewis Stewart played a clever pass back into Connolly who managed to dig a shot out from under his feet to level the score against the run of play.
Detailing the second, they said: "Wideman Lewis Stewart robbed (Calum) Macleod on half way and sent a long ball to Michael Ruth.
"His flicked header found Connolly who rounded the keeper and passed the ball into an empty net."
Continuing their assessment of Stewart's night, they wrote: "Lewis Stewart was becoming ever increasingly influential in the game for the Glasgow side. He had an attempt saved after skipping past his opposite number in the box."
So, why is the success of Stewart's loan spell with Queen's Park so important for him this season?
What is Lewis Stewart's contract situation at Rangers?
Having been developing in Rangers' academy for several years now, Stewart is now proving he can handle the demands of senior football.
That's a double-edged sword though, as whilst it's great for him as a player and for his future prospects, it puts increasing pressure on a Rangers first-team breakthrough too.
Ibrox chiefs clearly think there's a player in there with Stewart, as they inked him to a new contract earlier this summer.
Indeed, the teenager signed a new one-year deal in July with the option for a further 12 months included in his contract.
So, a strong loan spell with Queen's Park should at least see him granted a further season in Govan to try and make the grade.
