Why Rangers are facing January loan decision on Connor Barron as Middlesbrough update drops
Rangers loanee Connor Barron has not hit the ground running at English side Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old is not in Derek McInnes' plans, who opted to sign three midfielders in the summer window.
That means that the Scotsman had to depart Ibrox in hopes of gaining more game time elsewhere.
But, Barron has found the early days of that loan move to prove quite difficult.
The midfielder has been struggling to push his way into Kim Hellberg's plans, with his situation being hard to ignore.
However, not all hope is lost for Barron at Riverside, although Rangers are already considering a decision for January.
Why Rangers have close eye on Connor Barron at Middlesbrough
Barron completed a late loan move to English side Middlesbrough on 1 September, but he is still awaiting his debut.
In fact, the Rangers loanee has found it hard to even make the bench.
Nonetheless, according to the print edition of the Sun on Sunday on 4 October, Barron has a "great chance" at changing his fortunes with the international break allowing him to integrate into the squad more and build his fitness.
However, Rangers will be "monitoring closely" at how the Scotsman gets on after the international break.
While he is not in the current plans at Ibrox, the Bears do still want to extract as much as value from him as possible in a future sale.
So, the report shares that Rangers "will recall" Barron if his circumstances continue to remain the same as his lack of playing time will not help his price tag.
Could Barron still have a Rangers future?
You never know in football, but the decision to sign three midfielders and allow Barron to leave told us quite a lot on how McInnes rates him.
It will prove to be difficult to change the perception of the Rangers manager.
The report from the Sun does also shares that Barron is "unlikely to have a future at Ibrox."
So, that may simply be that when it comes to the Scotsman's career at the Ibrox club.
The Bears will be hoping Barron does turn things around, as with his contract expiring in 2028, next summer is the final chance to extract the maximum value possible.
Or they risk losing him for a nominal fee in the folloiwng January, or for free.
