How British media rated Lawrence Shankland's performance as Scotland lost 3-0 vs Brazil
Rangers star Lawrence Shankland started Scotland's humiliating 3-0 loss to Brazil on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old signed for the Gers before heading off to the World Cup, and fans would have hoped to see him firing in the goals for the national team.
That has not been the case so far, with two starts under his belt but zero goals to his name.
He was handed another opportunity against the Selecao, but he could not produce the goods, as he was isolated up top, as the Tartan Army were embarrassed.
Two goals from Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior and a second-half Matheus Cunha strike ensured an easy victory for the five-time winners of the competition.
The result leaves Steve Clarke's side needing other results to go their way if they are to qualify for the knockout stages.
Lawrence Shankland earns mixed reviews for Brazil showing
Shankland earned mixed reviews from national media for his showing in the game.
The BBC handed him a six out of 10 rating, saying: “Some neat link-up play but again failed to get the sort of chances he thrives upon”
"He was more involved in the second period and went close with a header in the 76th minute, but chances were few and far between for Shankland.”
The Scotsman handed the Ibrox man a four, saying: “Thankless task leading the line on his own. Starved of service.”
The Daily Record gave the Ibrox star a five, saying: "Rangers striker selected ahead of Che Adams in the striker role and a difficult task against the powerful pairing of Gabriel and Marquinhos.
"Some nice touches trying to link the play at the start of the second period. Scuffed shot almost scooped home by [Scott] McTominay and glanced header over as his team desperately hunted a goal."
Why Rangers fans should not worry about Shankland's World Cup form
Rangers fans should not be too concerned about Shankland's poor campaign at the tournament.
He has proven himself as a reliable goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership, with 66 in 162 games in the division.
He also has 25 assists to his name in the league, so he can also create opportunities for his teammates when required.
His poor form on the international stage means very little in the grand scheme of things, he will still likely bang in the goals for his new side.
It would have been nice if he had fired the national team to the latter stages, but he was not given the service to do so.
With Derek McInnes' side, he will have that service and when he gets chances, he is clinical in front of goals.
