Grant baffled by what he saw Derek McInnes do in Rangers draw vs Dundee
Derek McInnes was left frustrated as Rangers could only draw at Dundee last time out.
The Gers headed to Dens Park on the back of seven straight wins in all competitions.
Six of those were in the Scottish Premiership, as Rangers closed on leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
However, Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw on Tayside, despite having fought back from a goal down through goals from Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin.
Celtic would go on to hammer Hearts 7-1 at Parkhead a day later, meaning Rangers now trail their rivals by six points.
Former Celtic player and backroom team member Grant questioned one decision that McInnes made, which he felt backfired.
Peter Grant questions Derek McInnes decision as Rangers fall short
McInnes has found plenty of success over the past couple of months going with two strikers up front.
Ryan Naderi has been forming a blossoming partnership with Kevin Kelsy, which has proven fruitful for the Gers.
But against Dundee, McInnes decided to go with Naderi as a lone striker, leaving Kelsy to warm the bench.
Indeed, the Venezuela international did not enter the fray until the 75th minute, and was unable to help Rangers felt a winner.
Grant, speaking on the Go Football Radio Show, felt that it was the first time this season McInnes had prepared his Rangers side for the opposition, rather than making his opponents worry about his own side.
Grant said: " I was surprised he didn't start Kelsy because I thought they've found a way to play, they've no European games.
"It was the first time I thought Derek's adjusted to Dundee, I thought they found a way to play with the two strikers and it helps Naderi having someone up close to him.
"I was surprised when I saw the team really, I think Dundee would have been happy with the fact Rangers only played with one striker."
Derek McInnes must revert to type in Rangers vs St Johnstone
It was a bit of an eyebrow raiser to see Kelsy only named on the bench at Dens Park.
Naderi and Kelsy had both been among the goals during that seven-game winning run, and have developed a good understanding.
So, admittedly it did feel a bit of a misstep to leave Kelsy on the bench, and he was unable to have the desired impact off the bench.
Rangers are back in action this Saturday against St Johnstone at Ibrox, in a game they simply must win to regain their momentum.
And McInnes should revert to type in that game, bringing Kelsy back in to partner Naderi up top.
