Emmanuel Fernandez fear named as familiar Rangers frustration highlighted - 'that doesn't help'
Rangers were brought crashing back to reality in a disappointing draw at Dundee last time out.
Derek McInnes' side were riding the wave of momentum in a brilliant seven-game winniner streak.
Six of those matches came in the Scottish Premiership, and had seen the pressure really applied on Old Firm rivals
However, Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw at Dens Park on Saturday, despite having fought back to lead through goals from Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin.
Celtic then went on to hammer Hearts 7-1 and open up a four-point gap over Rangers at the top of the table.
Journalist Mark Guidi expressed his frustration at a familiar pattern he has noticed, and named one fear over one player in particular.
Mark Guidi notes familiar Rangers cycle after Dundee draw
The optimism at Ibrox has been sapped slightly after a disappointing weekend.
If Rangers had beaten Steven Pressley's side they would have gone top of the table, albeit Celtic would have been playing a day later.
But they failed to see out the job having put themselves ahead, and now the gap has opened up again to Martin O'Neill's side.
Guidi was speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, and says Rangers have been in this cycle before where they go on a run, then come crashing back down with a disappointing result.
He was particularly concerned by the performance of centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez, but thinks Rangers are perhaps guilty of getting ahead of themselves and taking their e
"I tipped a draw, I thought that Rangers would drop points, I was surprised that Minsu Kim came off, I probably would have stopped with him on the pitch, and now Rangers need to go and pick it up again," he said.
"That's been their downfall, that's why they've not been champions for a number of years because they've not been able to - they do well over five or six games and then they drop points, then they do well, then they drop points.
"A player has a good game and all of a sudden he's been tipped over four or five games 'oh he's worth £30million'.
"That doesn't help Rangers, I've said that for a long time about (Olwethu) Makhanya then you see Fernandez looking like the Fernandez we fear that he can be."
No need for Rangers to panic
This feels like a bit of an overreaction, no?
Look, there's no disguising the fact it was disappointing to get pegged back after finding a way to get ahead against Dundee.
That was on exacerbated by Celtic thumping Hearts the next day, and seeing a gap open up again.
But ultimately Dundee have made a strong start, and there's an awful lot of football left to be played.
This really doesn't need to be panic stations, Rangers are still in good form and have a great chance to bounce back at home to St Johnstone this weekend.
