Derek McInnes to 'appeal' SFA decision with major Rangers sanction inbound
Derek McInnes could appeal as his Rangers start is set to be hit with sanctions.
The 54-year-old has been cited by the Scottish FA for his comments when he was Hearts manager.
McInnes was incensed by the decision to award title rivals Celtic a penalty in the dying embers of their win against Motherwell on 13 May.
The new Ibrox boss could be banned by the SFA for the opening spell of his new role with the Gers.
He may miss four games at the start of the campaign, if he is found guilty of the offence.
That would be a major blow for the Light Blues, if the former Kilmarnock man is not on the sidelines.
What has been said about a potential Derek McInnes appeal?
Former Premier League official Keith Hackett believes that McInnes could file an appeal to the potential sanctions.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: "There are protocols in place to enable the manager to discuss controversial incidents.
"I shared his view that the match officials had made the incorrect decision.
"This impacted not only on the result of the game but also on the title.
"It is difficult to comprehend the frustration that the manager and his coaching staff felt after witnessing the error and with VAR he was probably hoping the decision would be overturned.
"The Scottish FA will have looked at the incident, considered the outburst and have concluded that a suspension is the sanction.
"This decision made to act has a deterrent. The manager could appeal the decision."
How this news affects Rangers' relationship with the SFA
Rangers have had many issues with the SFA and they look set to continue.
The Light Blues have previously called for meetings between Scottish Premiership clubs and the SFA to improve the quality of officiating.
The Ibrox hierarchy have also held talks with Willie Collum, the head of refereeing.
However, it seems like the same old inconsistency and bias that has plagued the Gers for years, is set to continue
McInnes is being punished for something that did not even happen at Rangers.
The battle between the Govan side and the governing body will likely roll on, with no resolution in sight.
