Derek McInnes has backed Djeidi Gassama despite doubters at Rangers.

The winger has had a mixed time since arriving at Ibrox last summer, showing glimpses of brilliance under Danny Rohl, as well as the other side of his game.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday star has been working to try and stay consistent, catching the eye in the recent 1-0 win over Celtic on Sunday.

Though Gassama didn't get a goal or an assist, his energy unsettled the Hoops' backline on several occassions.

He, along with James Penrice, was causing Martin O'Neill's side all sorts of problems down their right-hand side of defence, which alleviated pressure from the Bears' backline.

But fan-captured footage of Gassama has surfaced after the Old Firm victory, and credit goes to McInnes.

Rangers fans and players celebrated upon returning home after their win on the weekend.

The double victory over Celtic makes McInnes the third Rangers manager in history to beat the Hoops twice in their first two games in charge, since Graeme Souness and Walter Smith.

Gassama played a part in the success of both the win away and the 3-0 victory in the Premier Sports Cup seven days prior.

Footage from the game at Celtic Park has now been shared online by an X user, which shows Gassama falling into an advertising board, where Celtic fans physically pushed the player away from them.

McInnes was quick to come over, physically grabbing the 23-year-old and ushering him away from the home supporters.

The Rangers manager has already earned big credit at Ibrox for recent results, and the other side of him will only help with even more people over.

Rangers had a very useful outlet on the left wing with Gassama, perhaps even more crucial than some realise.

The Bears used the majority of their attacks down Celtic's right-hand side of defence, with 40 per cent, as Gassama and Penrice were both a big reason for that.

Gassama completed 67 per cent of his attempted dribbles and also won five ground duels.

He was fouled twice, as he was constantly running in behind the opposition's defence to unsettle the home team and crowd.

The forward almost got on the scoresheet, hitting the top of the post in agonising fashion in the 36th minute.

On another day, Gassama could have been the hero, but his impact should not go unnoticed.
